Why is salary transparency in job ads important?

Jo Tidball is campaigning for salary transparency in job ads. Our data suggest that salary information in ads is the exception rather than the norm in the public relations industry.

1. Why is salary transparency in job ads important? Being clear about the salary or salary range promotes pay equity and helps to level the playing field on pay gaps, and it also opens the door to a much wider talent pool. No salary info on the job ad is a dealbreaker for loads of people. If you’re setting out to be a diverse, inclusive and equitable employer, showing the salary should be a given.

2. What is the We Show the Salary initiative? We Show the Salary is a not-for-profit, business-led campaign that’s calling on employers to show salary info on 100% of their job ads. We want to drive a real social change on this issue, so that salary transparency becomes the norm.

3. Who’s on board, and how can we help? We’re seeing amazing support from PR and comms agencies – Ketchum and Full Fat are founding partners of the campaign, and early adopters of the We Show the Salary pledge include Hope & Glory, Curzon, Milk & Honey, Little Red Rooster, Jack & Grace, PrettyGreen, Zeno, Rooster, LMC, Bottle, Fight or Flight and Five not 10. We’d love to see this list grow and grow – so please do drop us a line on team@weshowthesalary.org.uk to find out more about getting involved!
